 Scattered throughout our yard are
lots of buckets and containers for flowers and shrubs

This cutie hangs on the front porch

I have been seeing these guys hanging around lately...hum?!

Its called a Dark Eyed Junco
I went to water the flowers this morning and there it was
A cute little blue egg!

Birds are a really important aspect of a healthy ecosystem and since we have cleared our property of debris and planted more trees and flowers,
we have seen a substantial rise in the variety of birds that visit and nest.

I recently joined a citizen science project called NestWatch
which tracks status and trends in the reproductive biology of birds across the United States.

This would be a really fun project to do with your kids or Grandchildren,
if you have nesting birds in your yard

There are many other citizen science projects projects like this
going on all over the United states

Here are a few more fun sites to check out:

  2. How cool. I will have to check into it b/c my middle son is obsessed with bird watching and always has his nose in his bird book.

  3. We also have tons of birds, and I feed them, watch them, name my favorites, and praise their engineering. I am getting ready to paint some galvanized for my niece's wedding. I really love to see the green painted pretty you have hanging. It will inspire me!

  4. I just adore seeing your gardens- and the birds are just beautiful! We have herons, seagulls, mallards & spoonbills in our neck of the woods. (Texas coast) My husband and I drink our coffee on the back porch each morning to watch "the show" on the lake.

  5. Your gardens are beautiful. I too have lots of birds in my garden, front and back. In the past week, two have flown into my house! I have only one nest but, it's right by my studio door so I think I will be able to see the baby's. It was fun watching them gather all the interesting paraphernalia to build the nest.

    1. I think it is so strange when they fly in the house! I wonder what they think they will find?

      Cheers, Kelley
