Vintage Wicker Chair Part II

31 comments:

Here she is
sporting her new duds
The vintage floral linen was just about a yard
so I used some natural solid linen to make up the difference

Flanged welts are great with vintage fabric
because they really define the edges of your cushions
There has been quite a bit of discussion about whether you should or can wash old grain sacks....
I always wash them
Cold water...delicate cycle
 with Mrs Meyers liquid soap
I also add a generous amount of fabric softener
A few times the fabric has shredded,
but if the areas are weak they are going to give away when the cushions or pillows are made,
so I like to know before hand.
Only the areas that were visible are done in the floral
with the remaining sides finished in the solid linen
This is a great little chair
definitely a statement
and comfy too!
More fun posts on the way

thanks for stopping by

  2. The flanged welts are interesting. Do you feel they acheive something different than a cord welting or is it just something you like personally?

  3. Thank you for the 'washing' part of your blog today. It answered the question for me. Excellent use of a small piece of fabric, and the finished product has such an 'old time' feel to it.

  4. I love the fabric you used. Very Spring like but with more interest. I love a good wicker chair and this one looks beautiful.

  5. Good question Steve....I started using this type of welt after I purchased some great furniture from a company called Quatrine. Gina Quatrine started her company about 20 years ago and her attention to small details really shows in her products. So I guess you could say I copied her. Shame on me! I think the welt is just a bit more interesting and looks more custom.

  13. Hi Kelley,

I'm with every one else above and love how the chair turned out! The use of fabrics are just stunning.

I also knew nothing about flanged welts. I wonder if any of the fabric people round here would know about them?

I think I would be well and truly a trail blazer if I did that to my cushions and you are right they do look more custom.

Thanks for sharing Kelley, the queen of fabrics. No one put fabrics together so beautifully like you.

    Hope you are well.

    Take care
