Red Hot: Inspiration

 This month in House Beautiful there was a house that I really loved...

 Designer Ellen O'Neill spends her weekend in this little gem in Bridgehampton

 Some of the red I liked, mostly the washed out colors, like the big vintage fixture...and some seemed to strong like the mirror....and the chairs

 This room is wonderful

It was an interesting article and you can read it here.

 The editor asked Ellen O'Neill if she loved red and her answer was,

 that the "red, just sort of happened"

Hey me too!

 In our little condo project I have used red everywhere...and I'm not sure how it happened!

 I think it started here,

 with the bar stools and the navajo rug on the club chair

 Then I used the grey and red French ticking pillows.....

I think Millies collar is red

 More red with black stripes

 Lots of red in the Bennison fabric

 These are some pillows made from 4th of July bunting,  red white and blue...

 Red on the bait bucket lamps

Red in the French Boutis 

 More red on the swiss army blanket

and some of it on the walls

 I even bought a red tin can with a candle in it!

How did this happen?  

I really don't know...

It just did!

The condo is done...at least for now!

 Well...I suppose I'm about done.

There isn't much space left and my budget is about shot...

 But I wanted to share s a few of the unique things that make this space interesting.  The first item is this great curly willow table.

 The red Chinoise lamp shade ties the colors together from other items in the room.  I'm really not a red person but for what ever reason I have used red throughout this project and I really like it. 

 The original inspiration for the color palette 

came from vintage Navajo weavings and rugs

The grey and red are wonderful together and it seems to disguise the beige and yet work with it too. 

 The vintage coffee table trunk is covered in a pumpkin colored canvas.  

I had a similar trunk that I sold with our house and I loved it...so I was surprised when I found a couple more .  I like the rope handles too

 The zebra rug is brown instead of the usual black and the woven jute rug I got at Overstock.com for about $200 dollars!   It is the perfect rug for layering with other rugs and it is really soft.

Condo Update: Dining Space....almost done

 I finally feel like I have landed....somewhere

It feels very cozy and bright, especially when the sun is shining!
Like today

 I managed to convince the buyer of our previous house that this huge faux bamboo cabinet was too big and that she would be much happier with it gone...so it came home to my new  "temporary home"...with me!
  Yea!

The lack of storage in the kitchen has made this cabinet even more important.

 The dining chairs are a favorite...from Mainly Baskets called the
Eastern Shore Boardwalk Chair


The cushions are done in a pretty linen floral, called Tokyo Rose from Bennison

 Bennison florals  have a tea stained, vintage look to them and they layer beautifully with other fabrics, especially English and vintage inspired stripes

 The blue shutters came from Capital Salvage  another favorite e-bay-er
(Is that a word?)
I love to use salvage as art and here it really draws you away from all of the beige shutters, walls,  etc

 A very cool dining table,
from Noir Furniture
It consists of two big steel slabs, with bolts and screws,
 that sandwich a  heavy piece of salvaged wood.

 It took three guys and a girl (me) to bring in and set up
&
 I doubt I was much help...in fact I was no help at all! 

The base is an adjustable "screw thingy"
 And is also heavy steel.

 I put my toaster lamps in the cabinet and found another interesting floor lamp to add some ambient light for working or for  dinner.
And yes those are old shovels in the corner...
A new collection...yep shovels!

 An old french bottle rack...this one found on eBay through a great resource in France...

 A few little cafe chairs and some of the old firkins I kept...

 A nice little splash of color.

And I might add that this is a really long narrow room...
Think bowling alley!

 as soon as I finish up all of the details...

Lamp Projects: Master Bedroom update

Remember these?

They are just a few of the custom lamp designs that went "bye-bye" when we sold our house a few months back.

 These were very fun to do... but...

It didn't take long to get started on a few new projects...

These are for the master bedroom and are made from vintage demi-john bottles

 The bases are very different  but similar in shape, height and texture.

They are BIG lamps!

These will sit atop these antique bedside chests

 The shades are made from some vintage French grain sacks with really bold graphics

 There is a bit of orange, yellow and green in the shades and I like these with the orangish-red lacquer finish of the Chinoise chests.

 I know this seems like a weird combination of styles, but it works!

 One of the shades has a woven, frayed patch in the center... that adds a little interest too! 

This is the bed that is going in this room. 

It is the Venice bed from Noir Furniture in a hand rubbed black finish...

Super simple and clean lines.

OK.... We're getting some things done.... finally
